Our Client

Autifony Therapeutics Limited is a clinical stage biotechnology company dedicated to developing new medicines to treat rare genetic CNS disorders by deploying its pioneering ion channel drug discovery platform. Autifony is a leader in the translation of ion channel biology into promising new pharmaceutical approaches for the treatment of hearing disorders.

As Autifony are a long-standing client of Greenlight Computers, we were their first port of call following an internal strategic review that was focussed on improving communications and data transfer procedures between global offices.

The Challenge:

The business is split across two locations with teams working in both Italy and the UK.

Both sites had a mix of cloud based and physical servers which were adequate for what the teams needed at a local level, but when it came to communications between the two sites, the team in Italy were struggling to log in and share data effectively. In effect, the two sites were operating separately.

As a result – one of the key issues was duplication of data. Project data collected from the labs in Italy was being duplicated and then sent to the labs in the UK as opposed to their being one central server solution that would enable the live capture and storage of all project data.

A solution was required to bring the two locations together so that they could operate as one single unit.

Greenlight Computers Solution

Following meetings with key stakeholders at the two locations, Greenlight Computers successfully migrated the central file storage and domain control services from the on premise physical servers at the two locations across to the London office based Microsoft Azure platform.

The Microsoft Azure cloud platform now allows the teams to operate in a future-ready mode, by keeping the data environments secure and cost-effective.

• Affordability – Microsoft Azure is charged on a consumption basis; predicted costs provided the client with a manageable budget forecast. Cost was also saved by not having to upgrade the existing physical servers.
• Global Security– data is housed in globally distributed data centres.
• Backup & DR – Microsoft Azure enables the Greenlight Computers IT technician to configure backup solutions cost effectively, allowing the client to define the frequency and nature of their backup schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) to protect data. Microsoft global backup operates at 72 terabytes per second.
