University Of Manchester Utilising AVIDAnet
Specialist Facilities for Conference Interpreter Training
The University of Manchester is the largest single- site university in the UK and is unrivalled in terms of the scale, diversity and quality of its teaching and research activities offering students a wide choice of degree programmes, along with excellent facilities and student support services.
As part of a major building refurbishment at The University of Manchester in 2009, Televic were chosen to install a brand new digital interpreting suite, to support the delivery of an MA in Conference Interpreting.
The suite includes a conference table with 12 delegate stations & tutor position, along with 4 double- interpreting booths equipped to support 8 interpreters. In 2012, the University opted to upgrade the suite and installed the latest Televic learning system, AVIDAnet® LIVE. The new Televic software offers tutors at Manchester an easy-to-use control centre which can be used for teaching and assessment of student interpreters.
CTIS Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies
CTIS is located in the Samuel Alexander Building on the south of the campus and has the largest concentration of translation and interpreting studies specialists in the UK and among the largest worldwide. Supported languages for Interpreting Studies include English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German and Spanish.
Please note that this installation was carried out prior to the Televic Partnership with Greenlight Computers but is an excellent example of an AVIDAnet installation.
