Almost a year ago Microsoft released a basic version of Office for Android. The latest news from Redmond is that they are now working on a suite designed specifically for Android. The new suite is expected to take many design cues and offer similar functionality to the popular Office for iOS.

Microsoft’s launch schedule is quite odd with both iOS & Android versions coming out before their own finger-friendly version of Office for Windows. I see this as a good sign as it shows their CEO, Satya Nadella, is making some real changes at the company. He recently tweeted:

“We will not be bound to one app, one device, in one place”

It appears they won’t even be bound to their own platform.

Expected later this year, Microsoft will soon be opening up a private beta.
