Do you use Sage software for your accounting package? Are you aware of the limitations or complications with the upgrade to Sage 2015?
The majority of businesses will have their Sage data stored on their server with Sage software installed on user workstations which are networked to the data location on the server.
This setup is common however will change if you intend to upgrade the version of sage on the workstations to 2015. Sage 2015 has a new element/function called “Sage Data Service”, this function is designed to:
- Improve security
- Improve robustness
- Improve optimized performance
The new function, Sage Data Service has to be installed on the same computer where your Sage data is held for Sage 2015 to work correctly. This Sage Data Service is not compatible with Windows Small Business Server 2008 or 2011.
Don’t upgrade – Continue using Sage 2014.
Upgrade – purchase a new computer running Windows 7 Pro or 8.1 Pro, move your Sage data to this computer and name it Sage Server. This computer will have to be a reasonable spec depending on the number of connections from other workstations.
